"It's a paired beacon," Fara explained shortly. Tunada might not understand exactly what that meant, but Kaitan sure as Zenite's tail must have.
Then Kaitan spoke and Fara pursed her lips sharply. "Laedo's not in a position to help anybody at the moment." She seemed to hesitate for a moment, then took a deep breath. Her compatriot, sensing what she was about to do, put a hand on her shoulder, but Fara shrugged it off. "That's why we were here. Over the months that I've been gone, he'd been questioning very specific things that brought my friend's attention to him. We decided to see if he was willing to question things further, and he was, he did. I suspect that you might have that potential... but I'm afraid my feelings might be getting in the way."
She felt a hint of giddiness, but it was only an echo of the kind that she'd first felt when with Kaitan. She was giving Kaitan a stare now, a hard eyed one like she wanted to find trust there, but that she was afraid at what might happen if she did. "If you come with us and Tunada sends daemons to help us eke out a position that we can stay until we find our leader, I'll answer anything you might be wanting to know."
"Fara," Fennel tried, voice soft. "You're too close to this. You can't just divulge information to bluepills. Jorgand is going to sideline you for the next year if we get out of this alive. You're never going to be able to visit Ave--the desert again."
"All the more reason to be upright about it now," Fara replied, face hardening into a frown. She looked Kaitan in the face again and there was clearly etched sorrow in her features.
